Although Unnikrishnan prefers singing classical songs over pop music, he also experimented in the year 2008. Unnikrishnan was also one of the permanent judges in the reality television shows AIRTEL Super Singers on Vijay TV as well as 2008 Idea Star Singer on Asianet. Also, he is the first male playback singer to be awarded the national award for a Tamil song. Rahman, with whom Unnikrishnan gave his best and memorable songs. He even won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his debut film songs Ennavale Adi Ennavale and Uyirum Neeye. Vishwa Nathan, he attended a special workshop “Veena Dhanammal Bhani” for six months.
Unnikrishnan was inspired by Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. He was exposed to Carnatic music at the age of 12 by V.L. Talking about his personal life, Unnikrishnan has been married to Priya, a Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam dancer.

Unnikrishnan was born on 9th July 1966 in Palakkad, Kerala, India to K. He has voiced several songs in varied languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, English, and Rajasthani.
